WOYWW #577: Miniature library

Five weeks since I've last shown my virtual face at our favourite blog fest WOYWW. I'm super busy still, multi-tasking between my job, homeschooling, housework and gardening - honestly, I don't know where the hours go! I did have a few hours free last weekend and worked on a little project that was completely unplanned. Just one of those instances when you stumble upon something that you just have to try! It was miniature books this time - and of course, I'd known about these for a while, but I had never felt compelled to make my own until now.  This was the state of my desk during the proceedings, still messy from previous projects weeks ago. The water actually evaporated from my paint pots!

You can see one of the miniature books being glued, the others are already installed in the mini book case that I've had for years and never new what to do with. Plenty of room for some more! There's also another book on my desk that was cut with the Eileen Hull Tiny Book die - though it looks positively giant next to my miniature ones! Let me show you my miniature library - so far I have made seven books. Here's a download of the covers I used courtesy of Thicketworks. I just printed the covers, reinforced them with cardboard, tea dyed some paper strips for the inside pages and accentuated the covers with some gold ink and gilding wax.

Here's a closer look at my not-so-tiny book as well. This was cut from grey board and covered with an old metallic gelli print and embellished with gilding wax. The 'Map of the World" strip is an off-cut from a Dufex print that I framed as a present for hubs for Father's Day from our son. We printed off a card from the internet to go with it - as a quick fix.

I also have a new addition to my plant stash. I have since managed to nearly kill it with TLC (too much or the wrong kind of plant feed?) but it's recovering nicely in its new position in the flower bed outside. I learn as I go along!

Happy WOYWW - stay cool on this hottest day of the year so far - although it's said to get even hotter tomorrow. Luckily it won't last long - a couple of days of this is all I can bear. It's quite pleasant in the house still - glad I don't have to go anywhere. xx

  9. When you said 'tiny' books I imagined 'tiny' books but these are tinier than tiny - they really are miniature miniatures. Wow, they are amazing! Love them, a real work of art, well done.
Love your map of the world book and the print is gorgeous in its frame - love the choice of picture on the front of the card. Shame about the plant but as long as it is flourishing outside no worries.
Take care and lovely to have you on here, miss you when you don't appear but fully understand you only have one paid of hands.
    Hugs, Neet u8 xx

  12. Hi Zsusa, those tiny books are fabulous, just the sort of thing my DIL loves, she's very into tiny!Love the rose, it's a beautiful colour. I tend to use Miracle Gro plant food, as it's good for everything. I can't tolerate too much heat either, I've never liked to get too hot, and now I find it harder to breathe as there's less oxygen in the air. Stay safe, Have a good week, Hugs, Shaz #5 X

  14. Hi Zsuzsa, it certainly has been hot enough to evaporate paint pots! When you mentioned miniature books, I didn't realise how miniature until you showed them against a ruler! Wow, they are tiny. The detail on them is amazing, for something so small. Well done on the plant recovery - I have killed a few off in my time. I know what you mean about not enough hours - I don't have home schooling to do, but I still run out of time. Have a lovely week and stay safe and well, Heather xx #4

  15. Those little books are truly gorgeous, Zsuzsa! They have a really ancient look to them. They are soooo small! Sorry you are not enjoying the heat. I seem to be tolerating it better these days, which I am glad about, because it used to pole-axe me completely. I am enjoying sitting out under our umbrella on the patio, which is usually too much of a sun-trap when it's very hot! Lol at your comment about my "relic" of a UFO! I have one that's a lot older, probably going back 45 years! I wonder if I'll ever finish that one - it's an embroidered rug that was given to me by a lady whose eyesight was failing and she couldn't finish it. I think I win all the prizes for the oldest UFOs! I can't remember if I've ever shown that particular kitty picture before. They looked so tiny and fluffy then. I'm glad you like the earrings - the head and 2 body sections are separated by beads. I forget where I got them, but they are one of my favourite pairs (for obvious reasons!).

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  16. What amazing little books Zsuzsa, they look fabulous on that shelf. Hope the home schooling isn't too bad although you had had previous practice. Looks like we will be going back to everything as normal in September from the latest government guidance. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #7

  17. Hi Zsuzsa (Hungarian for Susan!) Lovely to take a look at your work area! I love love your little books - they are the sort of thing I would love to make! In fact, I did when I was a child, inspired by the Bronte sisters and their little books in the Bronte Parsonage Museum. Of course yours are something else!! I also spotted some tiny houses - another thing on my 'to do' list. Happy woyww!

  18. We had a couple of hot/tropical days overhere too but right now clouds pack above our apartment: a thunderstorm is on it's way and I do hope it cools down after that. I love those tiny books, haven't made one in a while myself. Thanks for visiting my blog earlier this week, sorry I'm late with my visit back to your blog but finally time fell into place with my mind, yay! Have a great weekend, hug from Holland. Marit #28

  20. I'm just drooling over your miniature library, Zsuzsa...I love mini books and have created dozens of them over the years. They always wander away, though, so now you've inspired me to make a mini library to keep! Beauty! xo

  21. Oh brilliant work Zsuzsa, how lovely that collection of biddy books is - you dont realise how small they are until you see them pictured in your hand! You’re right, it does make the EH book look very large! I love how you achieved the leather look gilded covers, very clever. What a lovely distracting project - especially as there hasn’t been time for much else.
