WOYWW #605: Happy New Year: Puzzle gluing and diamond painting

Happy New Year - or should that be Happy New Lockdown? I'm actually enjoying not having to get up early and go out at this time of year - January is always so depressing following the excitement of Christmas - now it almost feels like a continuation of the holidays - although we're back to work and it's quite a challenge to get my son out of bed by 9 o'clock for his online lessons - but I like the flexibility of working from home, instead of rushing out the door at a certain time.

My desk is still tidy and that's because not much messy play has taken place. Instead, I've glued together a jigsaw I completed three years ago. This was necessary because I needed the puzzle board to start a new puzzle but I might have to put it on the back burner for now as I have other escapades in progress.

When the glue dried on the puzzle, I was able to stick it to the wall in my craft room with double-sided sticky tape - it seems to hold quite well for now, but we'll see how it fares in the long run. It was a quick fix that came to me in a lightbulb moment (which I might regret at one point)!

I've also been working on my first "full" diamond painting on the dining table little bits at a time. It's so relaxing - I guarantee you, if you hooked me up to a monitor, you would see my blood pressure drop dramatically! And it's right next to the radiator as well - bliss!

We took down the Christmas decs yesterday - it was quite a sombre occasion. It took Oreo all of five seconds to claim one of the boxes, which somewhat hindered the proceedings.

That's it for now. I may or may not be back next week - we'll see. Last year I took a sabbatical around the same time - I'm sure it has to do with the tidy desk - I don't want to mess it up LOL! Stay safe everyone - I'm sure things will get better soon, we'll just have to ride it out. xx

  1. Please get messing - I look forward to seeing you on here each week - no sabbaticals this year. Covid said so!
Glad you are able to work from home, makes me feel you are safer than if you had to travel. I just wish everyone could do that and this darned awful virus would go. I found it quite sobering listening to old Boris the other day. Or do I mean sombre?
Yes, we took the decs down yesterday and it felt wrong, they certainly brightened the home up. Cats are so funny our Tabs used to do just that, as soon as a box appeared she was in it. I do miss her. She would sit in the suitcase too when it came out for holidays, maybe to say "don't you dare leave me" - and I have a photo of her somewhere peering through a carrier bag which is on top of a cupboard. How she got in I have no idea, cherish Oreo whilst you can.
Is that jigsaw a Thomas Kinkade one? Reminds me of some I have seen that are from his paintings.
Well, must go but please do not take time off blogging.
Happy New Year to you and yours, stay safe and well,
    Hugs, Neet 17 xx

  2. I saw CraftStash has a feature on Diamond Painting...maybe a sale too. :) I can't believe you have a puzzle from that long ago! Yep, and like you, as much as I hated 2020, breakin' up Christmas was a little sadder this year.

    Happy WOYWW 2021!

  3. Oh wow you kept a puzzle done for THREE YEARS, mine are lucky to survive 3 days LOL. And now you've glued it as well. I redo mine but then I go through them quite quickly. It looks jolly good on your wall though, I'd probably have enough for a whole room and more - oops!.
Yep me too, glad to not have to go anywhere in the cold but did manage a walk today, need to do the food shop tomorrow, the highlight of the week I guess. Enjoy your diamond painting and thanks for the visit BJ#24

  4. Oh Oreo! He probably doesn't want you to put away his new favourite toys! Your craft room is very neat today. How nice to be able to do the puzzle next to heat! The one thing I really wish I had here. Hubby likes a cool house, I keep turning the heat up. My craft room is freezing. The puzzle looks nice on the wall. We started a puzzle in October 2019...it's sitting on our dining room table...and we have two more we haven't started yet...I think it's just too cold to sit there doing a puzzle. And I can't get hubby to come out of his man-cave. Oh well! Have a wonderful week! Lindart #35

  5. I'm quite sure it won't be long before your desk is gloriously messy again, Zsuzsa! I'm interested in how you glued the jigsaw - I am thinking of doing that with our cat one eventually. Did you glue it to a board? Lol at Oreo in the box! Typical! I hope he didn't get packed away in the loft with all the baubles. Lily definitely does watch TV. If something less interesting comes on (i.e. not animals or kitties) her expression changes and she loses interest. She loves wildlife programmes. By the way, the dog in the jigsaw hasn't got a bum hole - that belonged to a cat, I can guarantee it! I'm really enjoying my new blender. It gets used on a daily basis, sometimes several times in a day. It is a big investment, but definitely worth it. Still haven't heard back from the company about the old one...

    Freaky green eyes! Yay!

    Happy WOYWW,

  6. The jigsaw looks great up on the wall - I do hope it holds... I'd be a bit wary myself! I hope you mess up your tidy desk soon, your work is too good not to keep going! Helen #2

  7. Look you! just because you have a tidy desk does not mean that you have an excuse for not joining in on a Wednesday. It's difficult to cope with so much tidiness but rather that than missing you for weeks! We would miss Oreo too. Take care and have a happy woyww, Angela x19x

  8. Hi Zsuzsa, although it's good to see a nice tidy desk once in a while, we do like to see your creations, so please get crafty and you can show us something crafty too! I'm still resisting the diamond painting, although for how long I do not know. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I think I am going to have fun with the journal, as I'll just go with the flow- more Gelli prints, or stencilling, or even doodling - whatever takes my fancy. Brett was an old friend from school. I had not seen him for many, many years - but his daughter broke the sad news to us all that he had passed away. I was on my journal page when I found out, and just added RIP. The Jan Blan will be a monster size when finished lol. Have a lovely week, Heather xx #14

  9. Good for you to have the decorations down and moving on! I'm almost there ~ One solution I found for the Jan blues is to decorate for Valentine's day ~ I have love and red hearts all around ~ I'll post a pic when I get their..I'm still taking down Christmas. I tried to get my sister to try the diamond painting but no go yet ~ I think I might have to get a kit and make her a card and give her the rest and see if she'll get into it ~ she needs to lower her blood pressure, so it's worth a go! Blessings on your week ~ Love, Karen #32

  10. You are in my thoughts often with lockdown. I have everything crossed that this will have a greatly positive and timely affect for your country. Stay safe. Look forward to seeing new creativity when you are ready xo

  11. Mr Jinx claimed a box too...and my crafting chair! Outside in the front garden lights have come down, but the back ones are still up and so is my Christmas tree...one of my neighbours years ago argued that if she put it up, he should take it down. It was there in the middle of the front room, dead and bare til June! The sticking of the jigsaw is a great idea and it should stay up if it doesn't get too warm. I love the trollys too. I have two one from Ikea and one from Hobby Craft, only, they aren't in my craft room! And! I think it was you who followed me over on my WordPress blog. Thank you! I had an email Congratulating me! I started that sbout 5 years ago and forgot! But will have a go, now I know where it is!
Happy New Year! Happy WOYWW, Stay Safe, keep on crafting!! Lyn #25

  12. I do hope you join in again next week Zsuzsa even if your desk is still tidy and empty. The jigsaw looks great on the wall. Hope the tape holds it. Meow to Oreo. Happy New Year, stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #3

  13. Do you think Oreo was Protestant the baubles going away? Putting away the decorations a somber job, I agree. Keep joining in, even if it’s Oreo sitting on your desk x. Have a great week Angela #13

  14. Lovely to see Orio, Zsuzsa, and I'll be interested to hear how your puzzle fix works...we do a lot of them at this time of the year (and more so with Covid in play). I've never thought of this way to secure them! Light bulb moment indeed!

  15. Yes, girlfriend, hunkering down and riding it out is the plan. I love the idea of the radiator and the diamond painting particularly, and that jigsaw puzzle on the wall looks like a window from afar! I understand the tidy desk, and if you need a sabbatical,we’ll be patient, but please pop in and comment even if you don’t show a desk, just so we know you’re OK! Xx

  16. Hi Zsuzsa, thank you for your reply and the info about mounting jigsaws. Really useful! I would not have thought of doing it like that, and would almost certainly have mounted it on a board if you hadn't said it would warp! I think we'll probably redo the puzzle a few times before I eventually stick it together, but it's such a fun picture and I think it would look great on the wall.

  17. Hehehehe - cats and boxes, eh? Mine is just as bad. And any square of paper that may be on the floor is fair game too.

I have a jigsaw in a box that I've not done for many years, because the last time I completed it I decreed that the next time it would be glued together and then framed for the wall, as it wouldn't tolerate being put together and taken apart again - it's a stained glass gothic window, all foiled and very beautiful. I sense that time is coming soon, though. The thing that has stopped me is that it's arch-shaped, and I'm not too sure about how to go about framing it. It might have to be a job for a pro.

    Happy WOYWW!
