WOYWW #599: Beginning to feel a bit like Christmas!

I've been completely sidetracked this morning, so I'm joining in a bit late on WOYWW today. #599, my goodness! Wouldn't miss it for the world! Lucky, I've already got my pictures prepped, so I'm sure I can throw something together quickly. It's been a busy week with work, my son's GCSE revisions and a bit of arting on the side and whole lot of online retail therapy in "lockdown", which really didn't feel like lockdown at all this time around. Here's a shot of my desk, taken some time at the weekend.

I've been experimenting with metal - this is just kitchen foil stuck on paper and embossed - I couldn't wait until my order of foil tape arrived, but this worked just fine and much cheaper. Here's a closer look (yes, I realise that I used the wrong side of the embossing folders if you look at the letters, but let's just call it a "design decision" as it worked better this way with the images, which is actually true!):

I've also made a little Christmas ornament with a new Sizzix Impresslits. This was done with black cardstock and gilding waxes, but I'll have another go with foil tape later.

I stuck the three pieces together back-to-back to make this 3D ornament:

As you can see, we've got the Christmas tree up and it's definitely put me in a Christmas mood!

We even got Santa down and he posed for his annual portrait - hasn't aged a bit since last year!

Enabling is not my forte, but I'll have a go. I couldn't resist these MDF kits by Lisa Horton and already started on the mini bookcase and plan to complete the calendar by December 1st, so we can use it with our advent calendars. I might wrap the rest of them up for Christmas.

I also couldn't resist getting the advent calendar inserts again this year from CraftBox as I did last year - it was so exciting opening them every morning! I also got this paper kit to build a Christmas scene of buildings and trees - one for each day - you can hide little treats underneath. It looks better than the photo - all gold and glittery. I'm thinking, after Christmas, I can give it a mixed media treatment!

And finally, look what popped up on my Facebook feed last Sunday, November 22nd! It was 5 years ago that we got Oreo - these photos were taken the very next morning (also a Sunday!). My son (then 11) and Oreo literally grew up together! Such lovely memories!

Thanks for your visit - I'll be around soon. If I can't make it today, bear with me,
I'll be over later in the week! xx

  1. So many gorgeous things to see on your blog today especially the mini bookshelves (they look fun!) and especially the foil ornaments which really do look like metal. You’re so clever and have some fantastic ideas!

  4. Beautiful ornaments - but I am still holding out for December before I let my daughter get her way. The tree will go up , everyone will help decorate it, then before 12th night they will all disappear or be far to busy for the less fun more tedious breakin' up Christmas day and it's just be me. Ah well, at least I can do it MY way...

    :D

    Happy WOYWW!

  5. Hi Zsuzsa. What a lovely, busy post! So many things to look at. Great kits you have found there - wrapping some up for yourself(?) sounds fun!! I love that ornament - and hadn't even noticed that the letters on those cards were the wrong way round until you pointed it out. Great to see your tree and Santa - I hope to get everything out of my attic this evening, ready to start putting things up. I'm like a kid in a sweet shop when it comes to Christmas - and even now I am on my own, I still decorate.... erm... yes, the whole house!
Lovely pictures of your son and a very tiny Oreo!
    Take care. God bless.

    1. Yes, it would be for me LOL. We always buy our own presents - that way we're not disappointed!

  6. Hi Zsuzsa, I've just got the bauble and window dies but not used them yet, just couldn't resist them. Some nice stuff from Lisa there too. I used to make samples for Lisa and Danny. They were a very generous couple and I still have lots of MDF stuff that they sent me which is where the shrines came from that are on the top of my desk drawers. Wishing you a lovely creative week and a very happy woyww, Angela x17x

    1. You're right the two companies are run by the same person. The next project which is on it's way looks amazing and has a moulded dragon on the top of a box. The good thing about the monthly mixed media projects is that once you're a member you have free access to most of the other workshops. The camera project is brilliant bet the kit was too though I'm sure you could make a camera with a box and a few bottle tops. Happy crafting, Angela xXx

  10. Hey Zsuzsa, how fab are those playing cards the reverse letters just make them even more unique. I do love the TH impresslit Baub i'd not thought of making it into an actually bauble, looks very effective. I smiled at you saying you may wrap the other LH packs up for Christmas, I usually buy my own pressies for Hubby to wrap but this year we said we may put that money towards bigger things, I really need a new Freezer :/
Oreo looks even cuter in his early years don't they grow up too fast.
Stay safe & super creative Big Hugs Tracey xx

  12. As always, your desk and projects delight me to the max, Zsuzsa, and I love your 'design decision'. I do love the metallic look of these pieces, and can tell I'll have to get back into playing with all those tools. Thanks for the prompt!! xo

  13. It does not see like five years ago that Oreo first made his screen debut, nor that your son is now 16! Yikes - where does time go and why so quickly!
Love your foil work. Was it industrial strength foil you used? I once - many many moons ago before I was into crafting taught my Guide Company how to make boxes and things using foil with string shapes underneath and then rubbing black shoe polish into the creases. It was fun then but nothing like what you have done. How time changes things.
    Hugs, Neet 11 xx

  14. Your foil painting/embossing is great, Zsuzsa. I did some foil painting several years ago and enjoyed it very much. I've embossed metal, too. Alcohol inks are great on metal. Oooh Oreo!!! Bless his tiny cotton socks - what an adorable little kitten he was! Must show my hubby those pics in a minute when he comes back in after emptying the bins. My goodness, I can't believe Oreo is now 5! Still, our girlies are 3 1/2 now - how time flies. It seems like only yesterday that we brought them home as kittens.

Thank you for visiting - glad you like the final tiny carpet! I've still got to make the little cord for the needle book and I've already started crocheting squares for my hubby's throw! Our new furniture arrived at about 9.45 yesterday so we were less than 24 hours without comfy furniture. I know what you mean about it being rather sad seeing the old lot go. Not that ours had so many special memories attached as yours did! The kitties have literally taken over the new furniture after being initially a bit wary. Photos next week! I'm glad you approve of the card I made for our sister-in-law - I agree with you, you want something cheerful and pretty and upbeat, not something depressing on such occasions. She told my hubby that the background turquoise was her favourite colour! I didn't know that when I chose it. Butterflies do signify optimism and hope, don't they - I think that's why so many of us crafters and artists like them so much! The kitties in that box were so funny. We couldn't get them out of it for several weeks and then suddenly they went off it completely, for no apparent reason! They have phases for favourite places and then suddenly it's all change.

After all the recent activity, and having to get up at crack of dawn 2 days running, I'm shattered today so haven't done anything much but rest, crochet and watch TV!

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  16. Your Christmas ornaments are wonderful, Zsuzsa, and your tree is beautiful, making your living room so cosy! It is amazing to see how your son and Oreo have grown together! We are going to celebrate the 12th birthday of our dog next week also (well, it is the day we found her on the street as she was 1 year old already, not the real birthday, but we will buy some treats...)

  17. HI Zsuzsa, sorry for the late arrival! aww just look at those pics of your boys, they both look so young and so cute :) Wow, love the aged metal look of those pieces, really beautiful. I'd also find those paper houses and trees irresistible. I'm working on a reusable advent made from upcycled coffee boxes - one for teh grandkids, one for us! Have a great week, Annie C

  18. The embossing is so very cool. I am in the trenches at work at present but Tuesday 1st is when our tree will go up at home and Christmas decorations in the library at school. It's beginning to feel like holidays are just around the corner - but it's a big 2 1/2 week curve until I get there... Lovely to see your inspiration to keep me moving forwards to more arty time.

  19. What wonderful delights on your desk this week! I love the embossed playing cards and ornament - they are fabulous and I love antiqued look you've given them. The tree is looking lovely, and Orea is absolutely adorable as a baby - he's certainly put a smile on my face this morning!
Hope you have a good rest of the week - sorry I'm late getting round, we've had a very mixed up week!

  20. I’m sorry to be late! Lovely post! I love the foil cards...I have one of those embossing folders and now for no good reason feel the need to do something as clever! I love your enabling slot...the perpetual calendar struck me, I wouldn’t mind a go at that I must say. There’s ma lot of work for you to squash in before Monday! I bet having the tree up is giving you cheer. I shall be doing ours much earlier than normal this year!
