WOYWW#590: Birthday Fun

I've been AWOL from WOYWW for the last three weeks. Life's just got a bit busy with schools back and me being back in the office twice a week now, though I still do a lot of work from home as well. I haven't done much in the way of art since then, but I do have my son's (and Oreo's) birthday card to share today. I even have a shot of my desk while I was working on it a few week's back.

I used recycled cardboard packaging as in previous years. I painted it with black gesso and decorated it with Stamperia's Cosmos collection 12X12 papers and some photos - it's kind of a hybrid scrapbook layout/mini album/birthday card with flaps and an envelope for some virtual birthday money. Here's a closer look:

I've also made a matching coaster. I just stuck one of the images from the paper collection on a piece of plain MDF coaster base, sealed it and then resined it.

The envelope contains some fake money, that I printed from this website: https://funny.pho.to/ There are lots of other fun features on here that I had a little play with. You can put your photos into different templates. Here are just some of them - you can even make some gif files:

Have a go at this - it's so much fun! Thanks for your visit - I'll be over soon! xx

  8. Oh wow, Zsuzsa, that's a birthday card and a half!! It's fabulous! Nice to see Oreo featured, as well. I must check out that website - it looks a huge amount of fun! The Mona Lisa one is really bizarre. I have seen several pictures on Pinterest lately, with her being featured holding various cats, or even having a cat's face. You must have had no end of fun making this gorgeous project!

Thank you for your visit. Like you, I didn't think I could ever give up cheese. I used to eat a lot of it. Cheese is a highly addictive substance (there is good scientific evidence behind that statement), as well as being 70 percent saturated fat and containing more salt than is good for us. I did have cheese cravings initially but now I don't miss it at all. If I want that "umami" flavour I get it from nutritional yeast. I make faux Parmesan made from nutritional yeast and ground up almonds to top pasta dishes. I never thought I could give up dairy in general. I used to buy a lot of milk to make yoghurt but now make non-dairy milks (nut and soya) and am making soya yoghurt. So far I'm having problems getting it to set but the flavour is excellent. It may be my culture that's at fault, so I need to experiment with a different one. Still working on that one! We haven't had dairy in any form since June. You don't actually need that much time and energy to go whole-food plant-based. There are lots of options to save time and effort, and the main key to success is planning. I plan the week's meals each Sunday evening so that I know what ingredients I need, and whether I need to restock. Then I make my shopping list. I cook in bulk and freeze portions so we've got plenty of "ready meals." This way, I don't have to cook every day. Bulk cooking also saves loads of time and energy. Now I've learnt decent knife skills, I can whip up a good salad really quickly and could chop vegetables in my sleep!

Funny about broken things coming in threes. I've noticed this too, but at the moment we've exceeded the rule of three! It seems to be one thing after another.

I think plants sometimes take a rest from flowering or producing fruit. They may be fine again next year.

You are right - I am really enjoying making my tiny carpets! I'm making six in all. Then I shall go back to my purple circles knitting project, and then I've got a crochet throw to make!

    Happy WOYWW,

I must have a look at the website those kind of things are always useful I have done something similar in the past with a marriage certificate for a wedding card. I actually picked the magazine up at Morrisons supermarket. Hope your week is a happy one and a lovely creative woyww too, Angela x15x

  21. Oh he’s 16 already! My word that seems to have flown by...probably not for him, but old folk like me notice these things...I’m sure he was only about 11 when we met!! What a great hybrid card, such a lovely idea and beautiful papers. Such a great website for photos, straight into my favourites, thanks for sharing that!

  22. That card - which is way more than 'just' a card - is outstanding! Congrats with your man-child (they really become 'man' at that age isn't it?) and thanks for the link, I saved it and probably will play with it this upcoming weekend, sounds like fun! Thanks for stopping by my blog the other day, stay safe and have a great weekend! Love from Holland. Marit #1

  23. Hi Zsuzsa! That is way more than a birthday card! It's SPECTACULAR!!!! Wow. I love it! The link looks like fun, I will try and get it on my tablet and play! Thanks! Thanks for your kind words about the wedding, it was definitely a project of love! I think you are right about age and catteries, Mittsy bounced right back. But there were several older cats in there. I'm thinking that maybe it won't be as traumatic the second time (if there will be a second time)because they know we will be back. Have a great week and stay safe! Lots of birthday love to Oreo and the man/boy (he is so handsome!)! Lindart #32

This interactive birthday card is FAB-U-Lous. So inspiring. And that OWL just clinched it for me. Owls are my fave bird...

I LOVE the cosmos theme (I studied 'rocket science' in my younger days to become an astronaut/mission specialist (but never happened).

He's a lucky guy to get such a beautiful piece of artwork!

    Peace,
