WOYWW#584: Resined dominoes and other things

Is it hot enough where you are? I couldn't even sleep last night it was so hot - I got up in the middle of the night to watch a film about Alaska and imagined running through the snow! It definitely helped and it was a couple of degrees cooler downstairs as well. I'm just not a hot weather person. However, I'm not here to moan about the weather, but to show you my desk for WOYWW. Here it is a few days ago while I was waiting for my resined dominoes to cure.

I'd made these colourful dominoes years ago and frankly I don't remember how - they may be gelli prints, but I'm not sure. I found them at the bottom of my cupboards while looking for something else. I'd never posted them because they looked a bit naff but the resin gave them a new lease of life and now they're masquerading as fridge magnets.

I've also cobbled up one of my scrap pieces using bits and pieces on my desk. The rule is to use whatever is within arm's reach without having to get up looking for stuff. It only took 5 minutes! One of those rare projects that just fall together.

And now onto some other photos. I realise that my regular repertois is quite limited and goes something like this: desk, artwork, cat, garden, sunsets in any possible combination. So here are the last three items on the list - with three for one on the sunsets!

First off, here's Oreo sitting on the fence a few days ago when it was still reasonably cool early in the morning - notice those giant claws on the left side of the photo - the camera angle is deceptive - they're not that huge!

Second, our half barrels newly planted in the front garden. We are a bit late in the season but we still have at least two months to admire them and the holly in the middle is supposedly winter hardy. There will be new bedding plants around it next year and we'll be ready to go sooner.

And last but not least, the three-in-one sunset shots - they were taken just minutes apart but the sky changed dramatically in that time.

So there it is for today! Posting three weeks in a row - must be a new record for me this year!
Stay cool and thanks for your visit ! xx

  1. Oooh, I really like those colourful dominoes, they're so funky and look great with the resin on top. Good find! I hate the hot weather too and am spending most of my time in the cool by the open patio doors downstairs....bliss!

  3. Hi Zsuzsa, loving the dominoes and using stuff around you sounds like a great plan. Pleased don't start me on the weather, I don't like the heat but I do love your projects and pics especially Oreo. You must put some Winter flowering Pansies in the barrel for the winter then you'll have colour all the time. Wishing you a lovely week and a great craft woyww, Angela x16x

  4. Hi Zsusa, yep, not liking this heat either, just too much for me. Love the dominoes, the resin really finishes them off perfectly. I still have to do my planters at the front of the house, been to poorly to get to them yet, and now it's too darned hot! Agree with Angela about the winter flowering pansies, I always have some in mine.Stay safe, have a lovely week, hugs, Shaz #4 X

  5. Lovely dominoes and enhanced and colour protected by the gel on top. If I was doing just a couple I used to use Glossy Accents but think i also used to use utee. Anyway, you have some lovely colour combos.
The "cobbled" piece looks lovely and would, if larger, make a great coffee table top with lots of resin on top. I think you should resin it anyway and have it as a picture on the wall.
Love Oreo's "nails" - just crying out for a bit of red polish on.
    Gorgeous sunsets,
Stay safe and well, Hugs, Neet 8 xx

  6. HI Zsuzsa, those dominoes look fabulous, the shine of the resin really gives them a pop doesn't it? love yourspeedy collage too, can't believe you threw that together with random stuff, would have taken me ages! Did wonder about the fearsome claws and wow! that sunset, how incredible those pictures were only minutes apart. We've had bats flying around at twilight this week, nice a cool to sit quietly in the garden at that time and watch them. Have a good week :) Annie C #11

  7. You can crush on my tags if I can crush on your dominoes! What lush colours they are and I think the resin really makes them glow. A project that doesn't involve getting up sounds brilliant to me right now - I think we are all having a little grumble. I hate the cold, (Alaska would not do it for me I'm afraid!) but if it has to be this hot I would have to have a pool. I was discussing with my son earlier if we could invent some thunderbirdesque contraption so that the lawn swung round when it was hot to reveal a pool so we could have a dip - hubby thought we were both mad and I had to agree it would probably be cheaper to move to a house that already had one.... my DIL2b came round with a tiny paddling pool this afternoon which made us laugh in the light of our discussions!! Happy WOYWW, Stay well, stay safe, Cindy #15

  8. Funny you should say that about having a usual format for your posts, Zsuzsa - I'm exactly the same! I find it helps, so I don't forget anything! I love your beautiful dominoes and the ad-hoc project is fabulous too. Your sunset shots are absolutely stunning. We don't really get them here. We used to get marvellous sunrises at our old house but after I got ill I used to miss them all the time because of not being able to get going in the mornings!! When we lived in Plymouth we had absolutely fabulous sunsets over the dockyard - we were high up and had a great view. I've always loved our varied skies.

Thank you for visiting. You asked about the heat here. Being near to the sea doesn't seem to have made a scrap of difference - it's absolutely roasting and I don't do too well in it! When it's not quite so hot, and a drier heat, it's fine, but really hot and humid is horrible. Fortunately our sitting room is north facing and never gets the sun, and it's quite nice and cool in here. I'm sleeping badly because of the heat. It never occurred to me to get up and watch films about Alaska - what a brilliant idea for cooling off lol lol!!

Oreo looks regal on his fence, with his magnificent claws. When he digs them into your knee, I bet they feel as big as that! Our 2 have very long sharp claws, easily as big as Oreo's! He's such a handsome chappie, isn't he.

I am pleased to have got the first 2 tiny carpets done, but that's only the cover for the first needle book, and I'm making 2 more! I really enjoy the fine work. Cross-stitch has its own rhythm and I can do it while sitting very comfortably (if overheating with at least 1 kitty on my legs...). My head magnifier really helps a lot.

The kitties have had a good go at that office chair and it's covered with scratches unfortunately. Ruby did look funny, flopped on the back of it like that, didn't she! They are really feeling the heat. I can't imagine wearing a fur coat in this weather.

I was thinking today that I could do variations on the face shield - how about an Australian version with corks on strings? I could have a lot of fun with it!! It's certainly raised a few laughs already. Got to find some humour in the midst of all this chaos, haven't we!

Glad you liked the Romanian outfit. I've got several more blouses to model. I am really cross with myself because I used to have an absolutely gorgeous black felt embroidered waistcoat from Hungary and I got rid of it when I put on weight. It had the traditional Matyo rose motif and I loved it. I always regretted that decision. There's definitely something to be said for hoarding - if you get rid of things, you always want them again!!

    Keep cool and happy WOYWW,

  10. They work fab as fridge magnets do domino's I went through a phase of making little things into magnets and attaching them to cards. I like the idea of using things close to hand to decorate them makes them very individual and unique. Oreo looks like he's chillin real good there, Freya is in need of another fur cut and booked in for a buzz this Friday.
Thanks for sharing the magnificent sunsets, lets hope cooler weather is on the cards very soon.
Take care & thank you for your sweet comments, always lovely to hear from you HUGS Tracey xx

  13. I agree with Winn, the dominoes couldn’t be better..my word a resin topping has really finished them beautifully! Sunset on these hot nights really is something huh..you have a lovely big garden to capture them from too...I see them through a gap between two houses which are right in my way!! This week would be the first time for ages that I couldnt reach out and put something together from what was on my desk...fresh and tidy! BUT..they would never come out as pieces of art like you’ve managed ZsaZsu, my desk is not covered in the same sor to f bits at all!!

  14. Hi Zsuzsa, Your dominoes are gorgeous! It is interesting how something you did not even remember the existence can become such an object of art in a short time!
I suppose it is hotter in the UK than here at the moment. Of course, it is hard, but have you thought about sleeping in the garden (seriously! On a futton mattress or in a hammock - sleeping outside it is what we do (mattress) in the very summer). If you need it, I can give you the address where to buy a very thin and light futton, which is thought to take with you to the yoga class, etc.
The sunsets are fabulous, and Oreo is as sweet as always!

  15. Thank you for your return visit, Zsuzsa - I laughed at what you said about hoarding! Do you remember that time I was searching high and low for that little Jewish prayer book, forgetting that I'd got rid of it, and then it turned up on the bric-a-brac table at the village fete and I bought it back? That was extraordinary... My dad always said you could hoard something for 30 years or more, and then get rid of it, and the very next week you'd find a use for it! There must be some sort of universal law governing this sort of thing. I'm really glad that you came across that mixed media video because if you hadn't, you'd have deprived us of all your wonderful creativity!

  16. Those dominoes have come out beautifully... I think I have the odd one lurking in my button box - maybe I should make some fridge magnets!
And I love your scrap piece - my intention was to make something like that today - but I have spent most of the time trying to get a decent result in my journal.
Sorry I am late getting around.
    Stay safe and keep well...
