Oops, I almost forgot to post today. I'm off work for a week and in holiday mode, which upset my regular routine. Last day of school as well before the Easter break - it will be nice to take things easy for a while. Lucky I have my photos prepped, so I can throw this post together very quickly. Here's a shot of my desk at the weekend. I was working on my new batch of teabags again.
Here's a closer look at the backgrounds as they developed before I added da Vinci themed washi tapes accented with some gold paint (only six of them as I had made the seventh as a trial piece earlier). As a finishing touch I added the numbers and some phrases from book text, which I thought were fitting in with the images. We're up to #56 now so past the halfway mark for the #the100dayproject.
Also this week: the new challenge in the Mixed Media Emporium Facebook Group was Resist Techniques. I had two contributions: first the faux batik technique, which involves removing the clear embossing with a hot iron. I first posted about this technique here. My new experiments can be seen below with various stamps and variable success:
The second technique involves brayering a layer of gesso over an embossed surface which acts as a resist and then inking the paper with distress oxides. I also posted about this technique in more detail a couple of years ago here. It was a good reminder to revisit these techniques as I had forgotten all about them!
This technique also works with texture paste and crackle paste. This is an impression of a stencil I got when I cleaned it on a piece of scrap paper and later inked it.
Oreo was a bit upset last week when I posted that photo of a deer instead of him. He's still feeling a bit grumpy about it as you can see - not talking to me (note one of his eyebrow whiskers fell out again - they come and go at regular intervals):
That's all for today! Have a Happy Easter everyone! xx
Those tea bags are fabulous! Think they are my favourites of all the ones you have done. What a good idea to add some gold embossing, it will have given the richness they deserve.
ReplyDeleteThere are some lovely resist techniques about and you have highlighted two of them here. I think the last picture really does look fabulous. I hope you use it in something soon.
Hugs, Neet 12 xx
ps poor Oreo, glad he featured this week.
Oh what a feast of colourful deliciousness this week. You are at 56 and I am just cresting 40. Looking ahead already to the next one. I love all the resist techniques and you have a week of "holiday" mode to create even more lovely art.Enjoy! Last day for my daughter and she is already planning a girlie movie a day for us. That will be fun, but will cut into my crafty time for sure! Ah well, I guess I am lucky she WANTS to spend time together...

Wow some lovely techniques there, love the teabags this week they are so rich in colour, meaning, sentiment and art. Super all round. BJ#13
ReplyDeleteThe gold highlights definitely work on the Da Vinci teabags, really add to the rich feeling. I’m impressed that you were brave enough to risk your iron taking off the resist, I’ve just had to buy a new one cos I mucked up putting bondaweb onto some fabric!! Honestly, there was swearing when I realised what I’d done, fortunately the iron was old and probably needed replacing anyway but even so...doh. I really like the resist batik effect, very clever and the bird works particularly well. Enjoy your holidays and have a good weekend!

I have a dedicated craft iron, Jan! It's already messed up with bees wax! Not that it would matter as my regular iron never sees any action LOL!
DeleteGlad you're the week off . Fab work as always. I'm so impressed with all who keep up for 100 days Helen #10
ReplyDeleteI really love the colours you've been working on this week and it’s really lovely to see how you build up the layers. Enjoy your break.

Zsuzsa....gahhhh, those tea bags are gorge!! The backgrounds alone were gorge, but when you added the da Vinci coolness, it ramped it up!! You do those so well, my friend! :) Both the resist techniques are also awesome!! I really have to give that a try.....in between all my other happenings...hee hee...but seriously it looks awesome!! I love, love the choice of stamps and stencil you used for both techniques as well! Now that just leaves the matter of Oreo........goodness what a sensitive boy!!! LOL It's not too long ago that I would receive that same sorely look from one or all of our feline family members at any given time of the day. Mostly due to being overlooked for a snack or made to move from a coveted lounging space!!! Some days I miss that! LOLOL Extra hugs to Oreo for feeling overlooked by his Mum!!!! LOL Thanks for stopping by my blog and I feel you on the "card making" score!!! Me either!!! But as you said, I do cherish said card from you my friend!!! It's hard to believe that I have known quite a few of you cherished arty pals for quite a few years and I we have never had the great pleasure of seeing you in person!! the UK is on my bucket list.....but the years are creeping away, so we may have to rely on Zoom!!! LOL Happy Happy Easter to you and yours and may the weather also be in your favor for a beautiful day!! Blessing to you Zzuzsa!! Felicia #25
ReplyDeleteAll your projects are stunning as usual, Zsuzsa. I love the da Vinci teabags - I could spot quite a few favourite pictures there! Also the resist pieces - the last one in particular caught my eye. Beautiful. I smiled at Oreo - so nice to see the little lad again, and I did notice that he'd only got one eyebrow! So funny that he's only got one on each side - never seen a kitty with that before. I hope by the end of the day his nose will be slightly less out of joint for having been so royally ignored last week.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visit and I laughed out loud! Constipated kitties!!! I think you were probably associating them with last week's post all about cats' bottoms! You will be pleased to hear that they are all unblocked now, and eager to get sewn onto the blanket.
I so agree with you about the joys of cuddling kitties. Ruby and I have many such precious moments - she lies in my arms and gazes up into my eyes and purrs her little heart out. Lily won't do this with me but she loves it when my hubby cuddles her. She does spend a lot of time on my legs on the recliner but I think she's only using me as a warming platform. We've definitely got one each! I do agree with you about animal feelings. They experience real emotions and communicate them very well to us - just in a different language. Their facial expressions change subtly, too. They really express love, and I've seen so many amazing videos online where there is cross-species adoption. It's funny how Ruby has adopted that rock. She often sits on it and looks regal! I was thrilled to get the update this week of my huge-eared puppy - she does look amazing, doesn't she.

Loving the Tea bags but the backgrounds are brilliant and it seems a shame to cover them up. You can definitely see that Oreo is not pleased with you Lol! Have a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x21x
ReplyDeleteAmazing what you can do with a teabag.... The backgrounds are looking so interesting with all the different techniques. Oreo has always had presence even with 1 eyebrow :() Happy Easter, stay safe and keep creating.

Particularly love your resist pieces this week. Happy Easter xo
ReplyDeleteWell, you do it again! I’ve no idea where your ideas come from, but they are inspirational to all, those da vinci teabags are fab! Over half way already and I’m still admiring the first weeks! The weather isn’t set to be great, but am sure you’ll enjoy some time off at home.
ReplyDeleteStunning teabags Zsuzsa and you are now over the hump as well! The resist pieces are great - I will have to try some. Meow to Oreo. Stay safe and happy WOYWW> Sarah #9
ReplyDeleteI love hoe the resist makes the images really pop! The bird is awesome particularly. Loving the tea bags as always - I've started saving mine but they are a really awkward shape and I won't get the perforations. I'd love to see your step by step. The white you add really makes a huge difference - do you randomly touch with white acrylic or perhaps brayer over so it's just the raised parts? Stay safe and keeping smiling, Lisa-Jane #3
ReplyDeleteLove the teabags but emboss resist is one of my favourite techniques - especially the faux batik which can give really interesting results. It's weird how you forget to do these things. I think I might try some on my journal page!! Happy Easter!! Have a good week, stay well, stay safe, love n hugs Cindyxx #27
ReplyDeleteWell I'm just drooling all over this post, Zsuzsa, and now I'm going to head over to your link to view the faux batik post...that's a fabulous technique to add to your arsenal which is prodigious to the max! Many thanks, and happy week, my friend!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love those tea bags, and especially the faux batik technique! Have a nice weekend! Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on mine, Zsuzsa. I KNEW it was Blogger and that crazy Telus email migration issue - I'm the 'Unknown' up above, and likely this one will show up as unknown as well. Appreciate your pointing this out...Win xo
ReplyDeleteThose teabags really are fab, not one I could pick out each one a treasure to see, love the da Vinci theme, the gold frames really make those tiny pic's pop. Batik used to be my fav technique in textiles to create our own pattern on fabric design. I'm sniggering at Oreo's one whisker, he looks very distinctive he could be a cat trend setter hee hee!! Adorable.
ReplyDeleteSorry i'm late, had some unexpected things to deal with yesterday & today has been twice as busy, glad it's an extra long weekend..
Happy Easter, I hope the Easter Bunny comes.. Hugs Tracey xx
P.S The Laly Mille Tutorial was a bonus from LB2021 but the technique is one she has used on previous pages, i'm sure you have seen it before xx
Oh! Poor Oreo, outdone by a deer. Well give him extra hugs from me this week! I love the Da Vinci tea Bag art. I read a biography of da Vinci at the end of last year. Fascinating, Very different from what I thought I knew! It was called (surprisingly) Leonardo da Vinci by Walter Isaacson. I'm all for trying to techniques of old again - there are so many of them and yes, we do forget how awesome they are! I love the bird! Thanks for your earlier visit, sorry I'm so late, have a great rest of the week, and Happy Easter! Lindart #28
ReplyDeleteTotally awesome Zsuzsa! I can't decide which project I like the best.
ReplyDeleteSorry I am late visiting.
Happy WOYWW and happy Easter!
