WOYWW #615: Change of plans - TH paper dolls and mixed media textures

Wednesday again - I fell into a comfortable routine when I do most of my creative endeavors on the weekend ready to post to my blog on Wednesdays. I even managed to tidy up my desk - but only enough so as not to scare the mojo away. It's since been messed up again, but I wanted to show you a "tidy" version. I know many of you wouldn't call this tidy exactly, but it is for me:

There has been a change of plans - I was going to make little houses for my 100-day teabag project, but I ended up with a background that didn't quite work with them, so I took them in a different direction. Tim Holtz paper dolls to the rescue!

I did include my prototype house-themed teabag on a journal page, though. Here it is, just thrown together on a messy background made with my mop-up sheets. I thought the newly-weds went with the house theme - I hope they'll have a happy life there inside my journal! The leaf is off my indoor parlour palm - I had used it for gelli printing so it already had some colour that matched the page. I guess it represents their garden. It also ties in with the facing page that I shared last week.

There was also an exciting challenge in the Mixed Media Emporium Facebook Group. This week we had to create "texture" so I came up with this random background on recycled packaging following some of the ideas presented to us:

Then I added some elements to finish it off.  The composition would have been better if I had planned it in advance, but I just let it evolve during the process, which is part of the fun and full of discoveries along the way.

That's it my friends. Thanks for the visit - I'll be popping over soon to say hello! xx

  1. Morning Zsuzsa. That is a very neat and tidy desk there - I never think of places like that as messy - but creative space! You had fun with your experiment page - like the colours and the finished effect. Well done. So, no, your house theme didn't last the week - but you have used it and had more fun. What a week!!
    Take care. God bless.

  2. Hello Zsuzsa. I love EVERY SINGLE THING in this post. and that turquoise, mmmm it makes my heart sing. I used to make so many ATCs with vintage figures on, not sure why I stopped. Can I feel a project coming on? You never know!! Happy WOYWW, have a good week, stay well, stay safe, Cindyxx #22

  3. Wellllllll friend......first off for the "texture" challenge....YOU KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK!!! The textures and colors are amazing! I ALWAYS love your texture work though! Even though your tea bags went in a different direction, I love them! You can never go wrong with Tim Holtz paper dolls!!! I use them every once in awhile and even had some in mind for my next set of ATC's, but we shall see! Your adjacent journal page tied right in with the other, and I just love the spread!! I know I keep saying this, but we really must do a zoom get together so you can show me all your fancy tricks! Of course, your technique is your own, but I just love your arty style. Problem with me is that I have the same products I've had for the longest time and I can't keep up with all the new stuff out there. I'd be broke!!!! Do you miss working in the art store....I think that's what it was? I would definitely have been broke working there!!!! For me, it's just coming up with fresh ideas and that's not always easy to do. So I have to lean on creative folks like yourself to give great inspiration!! Nosy me wants to know what's in those cute rainbow drawers! I love those guys!! LOLOL Anywho, here's hoping you and the fam are well my friend and I hope you had a great St. Patty's Day!! Hugs come your way! :) Felicia #27

  5. Oh my goodness. Yet again I'm in love with everything on your post. I wish I could see it in evolution and in real life. I youtubed "tea bag art" and the first video to come up was our very own Shoshi!! She did a prep one and I scanned through the list to see if there was anything like yours but nothing spoke to me in quite the same way. I'll have to leave them on to run next time I'm sticking and cutting and just see what comes up. I'm in awe, I really am! You should definitely check out The Artistry blog that I've had my articles published on because you can become a contributor and I'm sure they'd love your work as much as I do. Here's the link for my posts so far. https://www.creativefabrica.com/the-artistry/author/lisa-jane-johnson

  7. Looks tidy to me Lol! but how would I know. Everyone's idea of tidy is different and it looks good to me! Gorgeous texture Zsuzsa loving the project and the colours are very nice. I was surprised when you said you have only just noticed AALL and Create though to be honest you're lucky as I just love their stamps and stencils and the few dies they have are brilliant. I really have to be careful not to buy more! Have a lovely week and a very happy woyww, Angela xXx

  13. Your desk really is tidy. But it holds a lovely view of the pages you have been working on. I love the idea of the way you used the house image and how nice is that to have it link to the opposite page - it really does and it works so well.
I love love love the last thing you showed us. The page from the MMEFG. How gorgeous is that! Love the colours and the textures, you use all the colours that are my favourites. Just love rust and any shade of teal/turquoise - maybe because we are Pisceans we go for the colours of the sea?
Hugs and thanks for some lovely artwork

  18. Oooh Zsuzsa, delicious work this week! I love what you are doing with your teabags. As I said to Lisa-Jane, commenting on her blog after she discovered my teabag vids on YouTube, what you are doing is far more sophisticated than I ever did! One day I shall get back to teabags - I need to, because I have literally thousands of them and they are in danger of taking over the house. Perhaps I should paper the walls with them.

Thank you for your visit - I was entertained by your thoughts on cat sick! Yes, how true, they always do it on the carpet! We dread that sound they make too, and the knowledge that you aren't going to get there in time to shift said cat onto hard floor! Sorry your hubby is negative about Oreo's habits. It's quite the reverse in this house - my hubby over-indulges them and lets them run riot everywhere, and I'm always complaining that they are never going to learn to behave with all the mixed messages they get from us!! I roared with laughter at Felicia's comment on my blog - she said that it was always her job to deal with sick, and if she was out, the family would cover it with a bowl to await her return! Haha!

I thought the digital ("scientfic"!) approach to planning the layout of the cat throw was the most logical way forward. It is a lot easier to plan this way than crawling around on the floor and anyway not yet having enough embellishments made, and not knowing what was still required. Another reason for doing it digitally is that my hubby has no idea what I'm up to when I'm on the computer, but doing it for real would present problems in keeping it secret from him. The way I'm doing it, I should be able to tackle each strip of squares in turn, adding the embellishments and embroidery and then continue with the making up as I go. As it gets bigger I shall have to work on it while he is out, or after he's gone to bed. I always have several hours before I go up, and can get on with it then.

    Happy belated WOYWW,
