WOYWW #600: Advent projects and more!

So here it is, the big six-oh-oh! 600 weeks of sharing messy desks on WOYWW - I've been part of about  half of them - on and off - according my estimates but I have no way of knowing exactly. I first stumbled upon WOYWW back in 2014 and it had already been going on for a number of years by then! In fact, I think it was in its heyday back then with around 100 people linking up. These days it's around 30 regulars, which makes it more manageable to visit everyone. What is the secret of the longevity of WOYWW? The undying devotion of our lovely hostess Julia and her second-in-command Jan, who always keep us deskers motivated and engaged. It's a kind of addiction, really! So here I am yet again sharing my creative space:

Now, I did say that I was going to tidy up for #600 - which I did! - but then I messed it up again. If you compare this shot with last week's, you'll see that it's a different kind of mess entirely! This was taken on Monday while I was working on my perpetual calendar to get it ready for December 1st ready for the Christmas countdown. And tada!

It goes with my little advent journal that I created around the same time to take part in #artjournaladvent2020 on Instagram. It's co-hosted by Michelle, who used to be on WOYWW! Here's my journal and the first page I managed to complete last night. Each day a new prompt will be released.

I've also done a spread in my bigger journal. I used some waxed elements that I had experimented with the previous weekend, which produced some pretty cool effects:

I've also signed up for a surface design course because I always wanted to find out how the professionals work, so that will keep me busy for a while. Remember those little houses I showed you a couple of weeks ago?  I've turned them into a pattern and used it make this parallax mock-up of a cushion! Bellow that is what it would look like on a mug. Only playing though, I have no intention of doing this professionally. I always just have to know how things are done - and once I do, I move onto something else even more intriguing! Jack of all trades and all that.

Happy Advent, happy #600 and hope to see many of you at the crop this weekend! xx

  1. I'm doing a quick whistle stop tour of all my fav blogs today. I'm in the middle of making two bears and an elephant so can't stop long today but I needed to pop by to say happy 600th celebrations to you and thank you for your friendship over the past 11+ years. Long may it last eh?
    Stay safe and well.

  3. HI Zsuzsa, Happy Big 6-0-0!! I totally LOVE your perpetual advent and the beautiful little book to go with it, they look gorgeous in those shades of teal with the touch of gold. Love the pattern with the houses too that works really well, would make a great quilt pattern. You're so clever to do all that techy stuff with the video and those kind of animated process clips that you sometimes do, I must learn how to do that one day. Cheerio for now xOx Annie C #35

  4. Zsuzsa my friend, you are soooooooo busy!!! Happy six-oh-oh, LOLOL!! Love it! Seriously though, you are on fire! I LOVE, LOVE the perpetual calendar! You are so stinking talented! You know, there is always that one person who no matter what they put their hands to, it turns to gold....THAT'S YOU!!! I always love to see your projects!! The advent I also love! Your journal spread is singing my song with my signature dragonfly in it! Love the colors and textures! You are too funny about figuring out how things work and then moving on....I think I do the same thing!! LOL Sometimes I will stick with it, but often I just really do move on.....almost I conquered it, kind of thing??? That's our "man side" talking!!! LOLOL But at any rate, how cool would having your art work on items like that be? I wouldn't dare try it, but yours I totally would!! Not sure if you made the Zoom, but I sure hated I couldn't make it. Thanksgiving week for us in the states last week and I was off cooking, etc... and then on Saturday was our big shin dig at my sisters place. I hope there will be another time and that I will be able to take part!! Have an AWESOME day my friend and many blessings are sent your way! Felicia

  5. Hi Zsuzsa, you did well to get one of the mystery boxes as they seem to go really quickly. I agree that not everything that in there is something I would buy but in a way that's a good thing as you have to use something that you wouldn't usually and I'm sure they will not go to waste. Loving the calendar, great piece. Great journal pages too. Hope to see you sometime Saturday if all goes well. Wishing you a very happy woyww and a lovely creative week. Angela x19x

  6. It's so good to see your name on the list, Zsuzsa. I remember when I was unable to leave you a comment because of that horrible G+. So glad I can leave you comments, now. That surface design class sounds interesting. In fact, they all did.

I love your journal spread. It is beautiful. And that Advent calendar is incredible. I love, love, love it. Happy 600th from #6.

  7. I love all your projects, as always, Zsuzsa! Your signature colour is also one of my favourites and it goes so well with all the gorgeous textures and the addition of gold that you manage to sneak in lol! They all look so tactile. Your pattern is stunning. Reminds me slightly of Escher - I adore that artist's work, and how it crossed over into the field of science too. Pattern is so fascinating. Thank you for your visit, and thank you, too - your comments and friendship over the years have meant a lot to me, and I can't wait to "meet" you in person on Saturday! (and hopefully Oreo too?) I thought it would be fun to do a final summary picture of the three needle books. I don't feel sad about giving them away because that was what they were designed for in the first place, and I've got the photos, and also the patterns as well. Next time I work on Oriental rug designs I shall probably work at a larger scale and make bigger ones but I need to do other stuff for a while now.

The kitties certainly have adopted the new furniture! I can see us ending up sitting on the floor before too long... They definitely think it was bought especially for them. I mean, just look at the expression on Ruby's face when she thought she was going to be moved! I wonder how many other people have bought new furniture to co-ordinate with their cats. I'm afraid there's no hope for me - I'm definitely a crazy cat lady, and with the lockdown, there's no hope of booking any counselling lol!!

We've been eating the pumpernickel bread with absolutely no ill effects so be reassured! I can't think how it got that name and reputation!

I'm making good progress on the cat throw (the RIGHT sort of cat throw lol!) and fortunately crochet grows really quickly, so I might just make it in time. I stay up well into the not-so-small hours and can make good progress long after my hubby has gone to bed, which helps. How I'm going to block it without him seeing it is another matter, though.

    See you on Saturday!

  12. Wow. Such stunning pieces. Love the journal page and the advent journal, plus the houses-as-pattern bits are super cool. You must be enjoying that course a lot. You are the second person who said they found WOYWW thru me! How lovely to know a few more desk-hoppers came to WOYWW via my blog. And I ahd to look - my first WOYWW was in November of 2009. I feel faint. But long may it continue...

    Happy 600th WOYWW!

  14. Wow, love the perpetual calendar, I knew you’d get going on the mdf pieces quite quickly, but didn’t think it would be finished! It’s gorgeous in your rich, signature turquoise and those stencils are just perfect. Now you make me want to tell you to open the ones you’re saving as a Christmas present and get on!! I LOVE the houses on the cushion, what a great way to see your artwork in use!

  15. Hi Zsuzsa, the perpetual advent calendar and journal are lovely colours, you have such an eye for colour and design, I'm sure you will find the course very fulfilling. I missed your post on the houses, but they do look great on the cushion and the cup. I'm sure you would find a market for these on Etsy or a similar platform, if you chose to pursue it. Thanks for stopping by earlier ... glad its not just me who has these moments of naivety lol. Happy 600th WOYWW and looking forward to catching up if you can make it on Saturday to the Zoom crop. Have a lovely week, Heather xx 25

  20. Fabulous projects. Your journal has made me think, I have been looking at leather journals with plain pages for sketching, I just fancied one. The one I wanted was a bit expensive, I looked at yours and thought “just make one”, which I did think of before to be honest, but was so tempted by this lovely leather one :). Love your hearts design, it looks great as both mug and cushion. Angel #42
