WOYWW #657: Happy New Year - ugly art club challenge completed!

Happy New Year everyone! Who else has their Christmas deco still up? Back to the drudgery tomorrow for me and I have some errands to run this afternoon but I'll make time to visit as many desks as I can before that and the rest later on. I have decided to blog less often - maybe once a month - just to keep my blog going, as much for my own records as for anything else, and of course to keep in touch with  WOYWW and the handful of other blogger friends who follow me. It's nice to look back on my blog as a sort of diary but it's so much easier to post on Instagram. Should you miss me (I don't see why you would, but if you do) just visit my Instagram profile for updates.

My desk shot from yesterday taken in rare daylight:

I've completed the 2-week ugly art challenge and started two other January challenges. They are not too demanding as the #creativeunfold2022 runs weekly and the #happyyouin22 every other day. I find these challenges very inspiring as we cheer each other along, otherwise I tend to get a bit lazy and aimless.

Here are the remaining pieces from the #tuac5minchallenge: they were supposed to be 5-minute projects, but some of them took longer - I don't think it matters. These have all been created on brown paper packaging and they all have collaged teabags. I like to work in series, though there's always a danger that the pieces begin to look too similar to each other using the same materials.

I've also made this reel showing all 14 pieces together in quick succession (reels can only be max 30 seconds in length):

I have a couple of pieces for the January challenges completed as well but I'll post them all together next time. Until then, cheerio! xx

  2. Great work. Not sure how you make a reel or do you just have to film with a timer? Angela #1

  3. Happy New Year, Zsuzsa. An ugly art challenge...? Not sure I even know quite what that means - but hey, go for it. You have certainly been busy so far!
    Take care. God bless.

  4. I do hope that you carry on with the blog because I would miss you and your amazing art a lot! I have signed up to Instagram but it doesn’t float my boat really. Love the ugly art (though it really isn’t!), once again you have put your magic touch on it. My Christmas decs were down on 29th Dec, I like starting the New Year with a clean house!
G’s camera club have been researching the pics and have found who the family were, rich industrialists from the nearby town, Llanelli. I may post about it next week!
Happy 2022, may it be full of fun and crafting!

  5. I don't really get on with instagram either - I think mainly because it only works properly on my phone!! Which is probably why it is easier to use, I do have to faff a lot to post photos on the blog. I don't think that's an ugly art challenge at all!! Love them all. Thanks for stopping by, happy WOYWW, stay safe, stay well, love n hugs Cindyxx #18

  6. I do love seeing your pieces together on the blog. I love instagram for instant but I do like the chattiness of blog posts. Good luck with getting back into the flow of returning to work. Hope your art inspirations continue xo

  7. Wow Zsuzsa you are so prolific! And I can spot your gorgeous style a mile off - as you say Instagram is so much quicker and easier and your pieces always jump out to me on there :) Thanks for linking me up, I really appreciate that. Happy New Year! xo

  8. I don't do Instagram (I have an account I don't use) so I will miss your art - don't forget us completely please! I love your journal pages. Happy New Year (I just took my decorations down before dinner) Have a good week Helen #3

  9. Hi Zsuzsa, I'm aiming for at least once a month blogging, more if I can! I love the reel, and definitely not ugly art! I used to think I had to make cards to be sent, or there had to be a reason to make something. I ordered the mixed media kits, just so I can do something for the fun of it - hopefully I will enjoy it. My Christmas Decs came down on Monday, as I was back at work yesterday. Have a lovely week, hugs Heather xx #23

  10. Hi Zsuzsa, you have to organise your blogging how it best suits you. I originally started mine when I was making samples for a craft company but realised it was a good way to record stuff I make, techniques used and when I made it because so often I forget what I've done. Guess I just do too much really. we've taken our Christmas decs down today but there are various thoughts about it. We always take them down on Twelfth Night, near enough. Have a lovely woyww and a great week. Hugs, Angela x20x

  11. I am amazed at what you can accomplish in 5 minutes! Such stunning art. But then I do think when you are on a roll, often stuff just flows. It's when you take a break from whatever art you do that you get rusty and then it all becomes more of an effort. I dragged out my gel plate and it has been YEARS since I sat down and had a good old proper experimental play with it and I feel like I am using it for the very first time. As to blogging, well I will miss seeing you but as Instagram doesn't allow you to upload from a desktop (cause it is all about the data collection, isn't it?) and honestly my phone sits unused in the kitchen 99% of the time, it will never be something I use. I also had an account about 5 years ago but closed it and now can't make a new one using that email address again, it is forever dead. I'll have to just hope that monthly post is a juicy one :D You do you and the rest of us will just roll with that!
Happy New Year and Happy 1st WOYWW of 2022!

  12. Thanks for the inspiration Zsuzsa - it is the only reason I decided to try a quick journal page a day for 2022. Your pages are great. Good luck with this year's challenges. Happy New Year, stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #12

  13. Happy New Year, Zsuzsa! Your pages are fabulous! I understand your decision of blogging less often, it is time consuming. Unfortunately, I will not be able to follow your art on Instagram, but no worries, I wil enjoy your monthly update here.

  14. I'm loving these pages, Zsuzsa, and expect they brought you a ton of playfulness. I've followed you on Instagram, but admit to not being on there much. I'll have to up my game just to visit you!

  15. What beautiful 'Ugly' art! Not the most apt name for things of beauty as your pages. I loved the reel but have not a clue how you do one, I have never heard of it before - is it via You Tube? It is a perfect way to showcase something like this.
I will miss you blogging but I'll try to catch you on Instagram. Trouble is with me and Instagram we don't remember to look one another up - in fact my account I have forgotten how to add things to it. Maybe you will be the spur I need to look into it.
    Happy New Year.
    Hugs, Neet 2 xx

  16. I have drooled over, enjoyed and loved seeing every single one! What a huge inspiration you are my friend! Bravo for making it all the way through the challenge, I know it's so hard sometimes to finish things. xx, Autumn

  17. I’m on Inst@ and surely will find and follow but I tend to ignore it for days at a time, so be patient with me! Will adapt to seeing you less frequently on the blog, hope it works that it frees you up a little more, I know there’s a point when something has to give! I can’t believe that you would ever feel aimless, I love the serial art style you adopt for the challenges too, it’s like watching the pages evolve in the quick flick through, it was quick too! Love for a happy healthy and very paint covered New Year! Xx

  18. Well I'll certainly miss seeing your beautiful creations weekly, especially as I haven't really got into instagram. The monthly instalments will be a treat though. Took the house decs down Wednesday but leave the conservatory real tree up till Candlemas on 2nd Feb, couldn't bear to loose everything all at once, they have been up since the beginning of Advent which was the last weekend of November. Speaking of which I made use of the front room table for my jigsaw as son is inbetween jobs. He's back home working on Monday so until the tree goes and the conservatory warms up a little I won't be doing any more jigsaws even if I wanted to! Thanks for the visit, BJ#22 in 2022
