I was planning to tidy up my desk for this edition of WOYWW and I did it in the nick of time on Monday night (Tuesday being a work day not much chance then). It was getting so bad again with layers and layers of stuff - making it difficult to find anything. Here it is, in a more manageable form photographed last night.
I picked up that letter holder on my way home from work yesterday - an impulse buy from TK Maxx, but it's perfect for holding my eco-dyed papers, which were just scattered on the floor. Also on my desk is a handmade journal in the process - not sure where this is going yet.
I've completed the final two spreads for the #junkjournaljuly challenge for days 28-31 with the prompts grow/stencil and doodle/reflections:
I now have a little collection of antique books from the late 1800s. I'm planning to expand this selection!
I will never have the heart to destroy some of these, so the next best thing is to clone them, like I did with this one:
It's a bit tricky because you can't scan a 3D object with a flat-bed scanner (guess, how I know LOL!) - but I was able to take photos separately of the covers and the spine and stitch them together in Photoshop. It's not perfect but not bad for my first attempt.
Here's the full-resolution file if anyone wants to download it for personal use. (4.59MB).
Now that I'm finished with my JJJ, I have so many other projects on my playlist, I don't know where to start! I was going to take a break, but there's just too much inspiration around! If I'm not back next week, it will be because I got overwhelmed! Happy #635! xx
Can't wait to see what you get up to next Zsuzsa. Your finished JJ is stunning. Great job with that book cover in photoshop too. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #3
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab idea to "clone" your books! And the tip about photographing vs. scanning is a good one. Your junk journal is a triumph and so lovely to see the flip thru. I do sometimes slip a sheet of deli paper between particularly sticky ones, or dust them with cornstarch or baby powder (non-talc)
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW.

I love how you’ve cloned the book and the brilliant result you got...so clever.
ReplyDeleteThanks for calling by at mine earlier...I’ve had another manic day so far shortening the sleeves on 4 coats! So far I’ve not heard from my bride so I’m still hoping she comes later. I did foolishly post items to America once and didn’t get paid for them so now if I’m posting I get cash up front and if local they pay on collection or they don’t get their goods lol.
Hugs,

Your junk journal is stunning. Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#18)
ReplyDeleteYour junk journal is beautiful. It makes me feel guilty though as over the years I have collected all kinds of magazine cuttings bits of paper, cards etc with the intention of making something like this and they are still unused. I really must do something with them. I absolutely understand being overwhelmed with ideas and I've also agreed to do two classes at the Craft Club before Christmas which I will enjoy doing and I know what I'm doing, I just can't say no when I'm asked! Have a lovely creative woyww, Angela xXx
ReplyDeleteThanks for the flip through, love how it turned out, really gorgeous. I also love your old books. I have a few but would like to have more, to keep not to cut up. Some of them were purchased with that in mind but I couldn't do it. Happy WOYWW! Elle #20 this week
ReplyDeleteZsuzsa, I LOVE, LOVE your junk journal!! Each and every page is more stunning that the next!! You ALWAYS do an amazing job with WHATEVER challenge is thrown your way!! I really enjoyed the flip through! Your clean desk, WOW!!! Mine could do with a spruce!! LOL I am SOOOOO with you on the destroying of those amazing books! I love using old books, but I make sure that they are ones that really no one would give a second glance at. What a GREAT idea with the scanning however!! I would have never thought to do that!! You did a fabulous job cloning for a guilt free journey!! LOLOL Ok on to your stopping by my desk... anddddd... THANKS FOR CALLING ME OUT LIKE THAT!!!! LOLOLOLOL I laughed so hard!! I guess you are one of the only ones that really pays attention to what I say, therefore, I will let it slide...THIS TIME!! LOLOL I really don't win anything however...when I do, it's a literal fluke!! LOLOL For the record, I don't think ANYONE but you guys read my blog, so it's safe to say I'm safe on the work front! LOL Not that it's ok, mind you, but there you have it! I do the same with FB as well. I usually have things to change on our site from time to time, so I can sneak a peek at my FB at the same time!! LOLOL I don't think you and I are fooling anyone, but we can stick to the idea that we think we are getting away with something, like when we were kids! LOLOL Thanks as always for stopping in Zsuzsa!! Blessings and hugs to you my far away friend! Felicia #27
ReplyDeleteYour journal is absolutely gorgeous and I really enjoyed seeing all the pages. The colours and all the little bits of ephemera are just stunning. The old books are beautiful and certainly too good to destroy but it's a great idea to photograph them, they can be used in art and still look fabulous on a book shelf!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week,
Diana xx #19
your junk journal is beautiful - and it was really good to see the flip through. I look forward to your next project. I think I must try a junk journal, heaven knows I have enough "stuff" to use to create one.. Have a good week the photo that I shared is a flower, I didn't mean to imply I didn't know that, only I didn't know what the flower was...It's beautiful though. Helen 4
ReplyDeleteHi Zsuzsa. Whatever are you going to get up to next?! I love those old books - I like things like that - I too, would never be able to destroy them.
ReplyDeleteTake care. God bless.

Fabulous journal. I would love to download that cover. My printer isn’t working at the moment. But I shall save the file, thank you. Angela #15
ReplyDeleteWow super journal, enjoyed the flip through especially as I've been AWOL for a while now. Love the cloned cover too what a great idea. As for my hospital visit last year, so so so glad I had it done and not trying to forget the experience at all, just part of life's rich tapestry and shows how far I have come. Happy WOYWW BJ#24
ReplyDeleteSuch cool techniques and using the antique books in creative ways. Can't wait to see what excites you next :-)
ReplyDeleteYour junk journal is so beautifufl, I enjoyed the video su much! I love to see what you do with old books, it is like giving them a second life ;-)
ReplyDeletePlease do not get overwhelmed - I love seeing what you are up to each week.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the video, it was a real treat this morning to watch it and it is something i will come back to time and time again. I just love your journals and long to see one irl.
You have some smaller pages interspersed throughout your journal, how do you attach those? I am sure I saw at least one that was not affixed to the page but looked independent of the book. I hope you know what I mean. Maybe when you bring them to the crop?
Hugs, Neet 2 xx
Hi Neet, to answer your question: most of the smaller pages are bound into the book with the main signatures, but there are a few that are just attached with washi tapes on both sides to make flaps. They hold quite well!
DeleteI was amazed at the beauty of your junk journal, it is truly a work of art! I do like the most recent pages you did, especially the one with the mandala quarter, very stylish and my sort of thing. I hope something special sticks out for you to try next, when there’s so much to do it’s tricky to just pick one, I always find. I do enjoy seeing your work very much xx
ReplyDeleteHugs LLJ 5 xxx
Your junk journal is really a work of art, so very difficult to get my head round the ‘junk’ part of it! Well done on the letter rack, a good find and not too intimidating when full of beautiful papers.
ReplyDeleteDon’t let the ‘want to do list’ overwhelm, just start with what you fancy, I can’t wait!!
O wow, Zsuzsa, your journal is just fabulous, as are those gorgeous vintage books! Your video flip-through was great, and I looked up Danosongs - a great resource for videos, so thanks for that. I have a scanning app on my iPad which doesn't require a flat-bed scanner - you just hold the iPad over the object and it will scan it. It's called Scanner Pro and it's available free on the App Store.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely comment. I'm glad you enjoyed my various antics this week. I've made a start on my die storage - we went to the Range yesterday and I bought some plastic baskets to keep stuff in. So far it's working really well but my dilemma now is where I'm going to keep the baskets! I agree with you about the kitties - Lily is definitely the Alpha of the 2 and Ruby does defer to her! I thought the same - she's waiting for her sister! I did another video of them coming in today and it shows Ruby playing with the suds in the sink again. I hope to get it up next week. I didn't know the lilies were poisonous to cats. They show no interest in them, and they are probably too high up to reach. They are going over now, which is a shame as they were so beautiful.
Happy belated WOYWW,
Shoshi x #11
I am beyond impressed with your journal, Zsuzsa...it's truly stunning. You are such an inspiration...drooling over here in Canada! ;-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful 😍
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading and looking at what you have been up to.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been active on WOYWW for such a long time and I lost my Artistic mojo ages ago. I am hoping for inspiration looking at prolific artists like yourself.
I do hope you find your artistic mojo again, Pat! And of course, we'll welcome you back on WOYWW any time! xx
DeleteAwesome video and thank you so much for the scan. I can't wait to use it. Your photo of the books is really swoon worthy. I wish I had a huge library of old books and great reads... xx, Autumn
