It feels like I haven't posted in ages, but it's only been two weeks. I've been working in short bursts keeping my creative juices flowing with the help of some challenges on Facebook and Instagram - more about those later. Here's a desk shot for WOYWW #629 taken a while ago. Since then my desk has gone through many transformations, getting progressively messier.
First things first though, my overseas ATCs have arrived all the way from Australia and the Unites States! How exciting! With proper postage stamps too - none of those disappointing electronic printouts that Royal Mail uses these days. Wonderful ATCs and postcards to brighten up my day! Love Susan's shiny gold butterfly on the happy yellow background and Felicia sent me not one but two beauties! The quirky one made me 'giggle' indeed and I just love the glitter in the birdie one - one of Felicia's signature moves. I took a separate photo of that one as the glitter didn't show up in the group shot.
And if these didn't spoil me enough, this little masterpiece came from Debbie, in loving memory of our Shaz - thank you so much Debbie - it's such a perfect memento and I'm so glad I met her in person two years ago, not realising that would be my one and only chance to see her.
Right, so onto my challenges quickly. In the Mixed Media Emporium Facebook group, the monthly theme for July is watercolours, which are not my preferred medium, even though I love watercolour effects. It's just that they never seem to do what I want them to do - they're so temperamental - you know where you are with acrylics but watercolours have a mind of their own! In the order of appearance below (1) silhouette with brushos (2) texture effects with distress oxides on labels (3) negative painting with ecoline fluid watercolours (inspired by Nina Ribena).
Another challenge I took part in was over on Instagram, called #fodderchallenge I didn't do all the prompts, just a few of them that took my fancy. You can see them below (these are more in my usual style with acrylics):
I've also got myself a wax seal kit - why didn't I get one earlier? I could have used them for the mail swap! I got the letter 'S' as they were out of 'Z' - to match my fake name (Susan) but then I realised it covers my tag-along surname as well (Smith) so perfect! I've a got a few more designs on order. They're not just for sealing envelopes, but they could be used on all sorts of projects. Here I used them on some envelopes I made from my tea dyed papers with some gold gilding wax to highlight the raised areas.
So that's it! Nice to be taking part in WOYWW again this week. I might have to skip next week again - see how it goes. I'll leave you with this rose shot I took yesterday - I know I probably shared an almost identical one last year, but these colours never cease to amaze me!
Happy #629!
Zsuzsa, ok lets just say that I ALWAYS love stopping by your desk, NO MATTER the state because its always crafty crazy goodness that's messed around! I always see something on your desk that I want to get my hands onto!! LOL So...what about the sweetest shoutout ever!! I am so glad that you got ALL of your over seas swaps and mostly that I got a "giggle" out of you! LOL Love the postcard Susan sent! And Ohhhhhhh the Shaz piece was stunning! Lucky you for having that in your stash! Keep dabbling down the watercolor road. It gets easier. I still struggle, but I simply love it! I just love the way it flows and moves! I'm in love with the fodderchallenge you did! It's gorge! And allllll those amazing painty papers! Zsuzsa style to be sure!! The wax seals are getting back in style and people are doing all sorts of funky things with the wax, etc... It's beautiful and love yours, although I have to say, the "Z" would have been pretty cool. Maybe you can still have that on your wish list! LOL That flower is stunning and would bring a sure smile to my face and nose! LOL Here's to a fabulous rest of your week and hope to see you next week, but we all go through those phases don't we? Blessings my far away friend! Felicia #22
ReplyDeleteI’m just grabbing a quick break and catching up with all my favourite blogs while I get the chance...the world and his wife are needing sewing at the mo so I’m keeping busy.
ReplyDeleteI really love the fun you’ve been having this week. I’m enjoying my fun with watercolours.
Hugs,
Annie x #13
Hi Zsuzsa, it's been two months since I posted, so two weeks is nothing! :D You've definitely kept those creative juices flowing, what a lot of gorgeousness! love your happy mail too, and you've inspired to dig out a sealing kit I bought years ago and have never used, it looks amazing with the gilded finish. Have a great week :) Annie C #30
ReplyDeleteSo good to see you this week - I do miss it when you're not around to share your gorgeous art. The challenges and prompts you are following look wonderful, as always As for the rose. WOW (I show the same things from Kew every week, never mind year, so you're doing well. It's nice to see the progression!) have a great week Helen #1
ReplyDeleteI always love visiting your desk, because you always have a style that appeals to me. I love, love, love everything you created this week. Like you, I find watercolors very difficult. The DO have a mind of their own, and unless you are very skilled, which I am not, they go where they want, not where I want. I was still impressed with your creative entries. I'm sure those stickers will find their way into your art, though.
ReplyDeleteI have several wax seals. I have used mine to make polymer clay medallions. I've been told our post office discourages them, since the envelopes have to be hand stamped which costs extra. I DO agree with you on meter mail. My motto is to stamp out meter mail. Happy WOYWW from # 5.
So much beautiful colour on your blog today! I loved the bubbles particularly, so beautiful. You got some fab happy mail too, I loved Felicia’s cards and decorated envelope. That’s a gorgeous rose, mine are flowering like crazy this year.

A beautiful rose and some wonderful ATC’s in the post. Love your bubbles painting and the Brusho one, such a vivid background. Happy WOYWW Angela #9
ReplyDeleteYou can be forgiven if you did indeed show that same rose last year - it is beautiful and well worth seeing for the first or second time.
ReplyDeleteLove your seal tool. That is beautiful, it is like those glass dip pens I always log for but never buy. Now I have seen your "S"seals I am sorely tempted. Maybe I should put them on my wish list. Just think how "posh" your letters will look now.
Yes the fodder challenge looks more in your style, lots of lovely pages there for us to see.
Lovely examples of your work for the mixed media challenge, I do like that Brusho piece especially.
Take care, hope you get to posting again next week.
Hugs, Neet 10 xx
That is a beautiful rose. The colours and the shape are just perfection just need smellie vision. Great projects and loving the ATCs too. The wax seals are so much fun to use and all the colours of wax that's available now. I ordered some seals from China with butterflies and dragonflies and they are gorgeous. Loving the Silver Wolf too. Hope you are having a very happy woyww. Sending hugs, Angela x17x
ReplyDeleteI love all the colour and adore your style. I have only played with my full-sheet labels but I can see the sense of working on smaller strips. How handy they could be. The ATCs are all stunning and lovely to see that WOYWW is such a worldwide event. And a big LOL! as I recall my Mom giving me a seal and wax as a birthday gift when I was about 16, to seal letters to my actual pen pal. What a thowback that is. Anyway, as ever, your entire desk inspires me.
ReplyDeleteCatching up - Happy WOYWW on Thursday!

Such stunning projects to inspire us as always Zsuzsa. I must get myself a wax seal - it looks so good. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #4
ReplyDeleteHi Zsuzsa, I always enjoy looking at your projects! Your rose is beautiful, never mind if you sent a similar pic last year (I do not remember if it is so). I love plants and flowers!
ReplyDeleteLots of lovely happy post and so pleased that mine had arrived!
ReplyDeleteYour artwork is beautiful as ever!!
Happy WOYWW!

So many great photos you have shared. Love the ATC's and the watercolor you have shared. It's on my list but need an undisturbed day to work on that I love watercolor flowers I see here and there. Somehow I've misplaced my was seal kit in my moving things. Imagine that, But I do love them. I seen the #fodder challenge but didn't understand what it involved, lots of pretty projects on it. Happy WOYWW and enjoy a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteOh so much artistic loveliness shared there and your rose is a beauty isn't it - I wonder if it smells good too? xx Jo
ReplyDeleteI love your watercolour pieces, Zsuzsa, and as always, the mixed media ones. The wax sealing kit is cool! I wanted to make little wax seals to go on the cover of the album I made about Mum several years ago (you may remember it - the interactive album with all the flowers) and I knew my hubby had some sealing wax, but I couldn't find it and he was out. In the end I made some faux wax (I think from UTEE) and painted it after I'd pressed a brass button into it! Worked a treat. Great happy mail from around the globe, and what a beautiful rose.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visit, and I'm glad you enjoyed the virtual tour around my gradually getting tidied room! Still a way to go but it's a definite improvement now. I'm looking forward to experimenting with the foiling. Cindy is dealing with some family issues at the moment so she hasn't sent it yet, but I'm more than happy to wait for it because there's a lot on at the moment apart from the grand tidy-up - reinstalling everything on the laptop is taking a long time. Thank you for your good wishes re my MRI results - it's good news - later I'm going to update my cancer diary with details. My laptop has a new hard drive now so it's fixed - I just hope they don't try and fix Shoshi by reformatting her!!
Happy belated WOYWW,
Shoshi x #12
Wow! Your artwork is all so stunning and so varied. I saw the instagram tag yesterday but haven't investigated... I am doing ICAD again and only just started so have a way to go to catch up! Happy Belated WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#23)
ReplyDeleteThere's always something in your posts that gets me drooling, and this time it's the fabulous silhouette, among others. You and your desk are so inspiring I'm going to plunk myself in my basement studio (our temps are really high so we're being cellar dwellers for the next couple of weeks while it goes up to 40 degrees Celcius) until I have as much fun as you are. :D Happy week, my friend...
ReplyDeleteAre those labels? Oh that sets my mind racing a bit! a have to smile at your ‘short bursts’, they are so so productive! I agree with you about watercolour, I remember an art teacher telling me that was the whole point and if I didn’t like it I should avoid them. So I didn’t take any more of his classes till they moved back to other painting! Love to see your desk s it is, makes me feel that all is OK with you, short bursts or not. As for that rose, don’t they make you swoon!
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated WOYWW. So many fantastic challenge projects, and I love the wax seal. I bought a full set of all sorts of waxes/seals many years ago, when I saw it on the craft shopping channel and thought I would use it on lots of projects. I never used any of it, and eventually it was sold as part of my Mega Craft Room Clearout about 3 years ago. Ali x #24
ReplyDeleteHI Zsuzsa! You have been very busy, and I love it all! Especially the woman, that one's my favourite! I really need to get more into challenges, how does the fodder challenge work? I couldn't really tell from the Instagram posts. I had a sealing wax seal in high school - little did I know it would be useful in my 60's! The rose is gorgeous, about 10 times bigger than mine are! Thanks for your visit, see you in 2 weeks! Lindart #26
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your wonderful ATC and card. I loved the envelope too and managed to take the address label off the front so I can use it. My daughter brought the post to me so I could open all my lovely swaps.
