WOYWW #611: 100-day project week#2 and related stuff

Forgive me if I'm a little incoherent this morning - I've only just found out about our dear friend and fellow WOYWW-er, Shaz. I'm still in denial and refuse to believe that she's gone. I know I will still be looking for her name on the WOYWW list for months to come. I will miss her beautiful makes and endless enabling and 'Finally's - though we can always go back to her old posts to get our fix!

But the show must go on, so here's my desk as it was over the weekend, working on my 100-day project teabags and other things. I've labelled the objects of interest on my desk to save you the full tour.

In the background you can just about make out my box where I'm collecting my 100 altered teabags. Here's a closer look at # 008-014. My chosen theme for this batch was vintage washi tapes.

I used some of my leftover teabags to make a sheet for 'collage fodder' as it's known on Instagram. Then I cut it up so the bits can be used as backgrounds or for collages. These sheets always look better when you cut them into random bits.

While I was at it, I used two of the pieces to make some tags and a prototype for next week's batch of teabags which will feature foliage diecuts.

I've also tried my hand at tinting some teabags - they came out a bit dark, but I'll experiment further. If you want to see something amazing, check out this link on Instagram. It's a vintage parasol covered in teabags!

And Finally... (this one's for you, Shaz) xx

Thank you all who visit and leave a comment - I can't always visit everyone every week, but if you leave a comment I will always get back to you xx

  1. Very sad news indeed Zsuzsa. Love your and finally though - just the sort of thing Shaz would have included. Love your 100 day project tea bags! Meow to Oreo. Stay safe. Sarah #6

  2. I think we are all in denial about Shaz, as if life isn't hard enough to process right now, our blogs are a safe haven and when we hear sad news regarding a crafty blog buddy it's so unfair. Shaz would love your funny, i'd have to add that all craft purchases are an investment, that's what I tell my hubby anyway..
Keep up those lovely makes my friend, they really are wonderful things.
    Hugs Tracey xx

  3. Oh I am so sorry that you only found out this morning, what a shock you must have had. Just reading everyone’s tributes to Shaz has been wonderful, what a fitting epitaph for an amazing woman. Goodness, I’m going to miss her. Your And Finally is a perfect touch to end on, Shaz would have laughed her socks off!

  4. Such sad news Zsuzsa, I think we are all reeling from it. I love your And Finally, so true and so very much the sort of thing Shaz would have put on her blog - thank you for the smile! I am loving your tea bag art - like you I have found ordinary bags come out too dark if I try and colour them but herbal tea bags don't stain so much when they are brewed and the paler bags take the colour better.
Hope you have a good week, stay safe and well,

  5. Oh Zsuzsa I feel awful that you have just found out about Shaz. I emailed three people I knew were not on Facebook and had I known you did not know I would certainly have included you. I am so sorry, it must have been terrible for you to open up this morning and find all the tributes to her.
Love the various things you have been doing with the teabags, and the tribute at the end is fabulous. That and the "and finally" are a fitting tribute Zsuzsa.

  6. It is just the saddest thing. I know it will take quite a while to move from the denial stage to acceptance. This week I think we are all just devastated and feeling a little lost. I know it will get better, but not soon.

I do love your teabags - this is going to be a lovely project. I might have to try some out...someday. :)

Hugs to all on a sad WOYWW day.

  7. I’m sorry I’m so late visiting this week. I’ve been head down making Memory bears this morning.
I love all you’ve been working on this week. Shaz touched the hearts of so many didn’t she?

  8. Ok, first off, can you just STOP with all the gorgeousness?????? I'm so jelly of those amazing altered tea bags!!! They, of course, have your signature all over them, and they are just too gorgeous!! Who would have known....tea bags????? Just goes to show that we can use anything to craft. I also like your prototype for the next weeks batch!! Too clever how you used the leftovers for your background. They turned out to be some yummy bits for some new projects!!! I so want to try the tea bag technique at some point, but probably by the time I get around to it, it will be old news and no one will be interested!! LOL That's usually how I roll...late for my own party!!! LOL LOVE, LOVED your "and finally" in remembrance of Shaz! That was so her!! I think I need to print that one out and hang it on my wall!! LOL Here's hoping you and the family are well and we still need to find the time to do a hang out on Zoom!! Hopefully between the two of us, we can make it happen!! Take care my friend and happy Wednesday to you.....scratches behind the ears for Oreo! :) Felicia #34

  9. Your tea bags are fab and you make the background piece sound so easy and then produce such fab things with it - a bright pageful of gorgeousness that brightened a sad day. Thanks. xx Jo

  10. I LOVE your teabags! I was collecting them for awhile in the summer, and kind of lost interest, but I think you have renewed it! I love the "collage Fodder", also called "masterboard" and way way back, "serindipity".
I never got to meet Shaz, just through the internet, but she will be sadly missed by all. Lindart #35

  13. I started off okay today with the visits, walked dogs and went into the cabin and now I don't know where the time went to! Shaz will never have really left us because her blog will keep her alive for us and I can tell you it wont be the last time I pop over there for some ideas when I get stuck, God Bless her. I'm loving how you've used the tea bags I need to drink more tea Lol! I used them some time ago in a journal but had to get my mum to save them for me. Have a lovely creative woyww, Angela,x18x

  15. Even though Doug warned us the end was coming, it was still a shock when I read the news; but it is just typical of the way Shaz was that so many people have written such beautiful things. Glad you were able to have a crafty weekend with such gorgeous results! Thanks for visiting. Helen #2

  16. Hi Zsuzsa. I'm so sorry you have only just heard today about Shaz's death - that must have been so hard for you. Most of us seem to have had a few days to get our head around it all - not easy, though, even so.
You have had an amazingly creative week! Well done. Your dedication to doing a 100day challenge is amazing - I take my hat off to you.
    Take care. God bless.

  17. I love your teabag projects! I wonder if the Hubster will be upset if I pilfer a few of his teabags so I can give this a try. Nicely done!

  18. I adore your little works of art so much! Do you do any videos or do you have any good links for youtube vids that I can watch please? They have so much texture and interest. No idea what I would do with them afterwards though. Do you put them in a book? Much love on this difficult day, Lisa-Jane #7

  19. I think Shaz started something with her "and finally's" didn't she! Love yours this week. Shaz would have approved. I think we can all identify with several of those excuses. Like you, I am still finding it very hard to accept that she has gone, although that I have been aware for quite some time that she had passed the point of no return. There comes a time when your body simply can't take any more punishment - we've seen this again and again. Chemo is so damaging anyway, and to an already considerably weakened body it can sometimes do more harm than good. There are very few stage 4 cancer survivors unfortunately. This is why early diagnosis is so vital, and it makes me very angry that in the current situation this is increasingly not happening, and death rates are going to increase even if the Covid situation improves. (Not that any of that is relevant to Shaz's case of course.) Cancer is such a cruel lottery, claiming one while letting another go free, and I'm wrestling with that at the moment emotionally.

I love your "collage fodder" - great expression! (I have a similar one - "freezer fodder" when I'm cooking up a batch of something we've run out of.) The sheet cut into smaller pieces is indeed brilliant and I love the addition of the foliage die cuts. Your teabags are so great - one day I shall tackle the several big boxes of them that I have got. That parasol is quite amazing and really beautiful. Interesting that the Finnabair clear gesso isn't gritty - must remember about that - when I use my clear gessos I usually sand them lightly to smooth them out a bit.

Thank you for your visit. Thanks for asking - I'm more or less OK but have crashed a bit with fatigue this week. I used to be really good at pacing but then I got cancer and literally couldn't do anything, and when I got better I seemed to have lost the knack of pacing and went straight into boom and bust which is a very bad strategy for people with ME, and I've tended to remain that way. My sleep pattern is also all over the place at the moment which doesn't help, and Kermit (my stoma) is playing up more because he hates Miss Piggy (my parastomal hernia) which involves more frequent bag changes, and having to remember to keep an eye on it. Some day, over the rainbow... I might get my operation to sort this out! I'm not holding my breath, though.

Yes, a great deal of digging to get us out of our major snow-fall! That's probably what's made me so tired!!

Tesco is usually pretty OK, but it is boring when they stop certain products that you really like. I am fortunate in that my hubby always takes a brief trip to Sainsbury's (only just down the road) and will pick up any shortfalls. We use Oko Cat's Best cat litter that is compostible and also flushable down the loo. We get it at Pets at Home (also quite close by). We've always found it very good, and not smelly either. We have to put it in a high sided clear storage box that we bought at B&Q because an ordinary litter tray is hopeless for our two ruffians - they spray the stuff all over the place with great gusto as if they are trying to reach Australia before tea time! Glad you liked my Valentine card - made in double quick time - I really thought I wasn't going to manage one at all this year.

The Hebrew cross stitch isn't too complicated really, it's just like charting any other design. I do use the half-crosses for it though, because you get a more accurate shape. Some purists are against this but I'm not fussy about it. I just wish someone would reinvent EasyCross because I really, really miss that awesome programme.

    Have a good week,

  20. So sad to hear about your friend's passing. You will have lovely memories of her that will pop up when you are creating, I'm sure.
Loving your teabag project. Still wishing I could fit in another project (100 days) but I just can't. Loving what I'm doing currently so that's the main thing.

  21. I am so sad to hear about Shaz' passing. I had a look at her blog last week and she was so creative. Life is so unfair... I love your teabags and 'collage fodder'!

  22. I'm loving all your teabag makes, and especially am drooling over the tinted bags...dark or not, they are awesome. And I suspect the 'lies' list all applies to each one of us. :D

  23. Gosh, I could have written that list of erm, ‘fibs’ without even stopping to think about it! mind you, I’m much more in control these days. Loving the tea bags, especially the numbering of the series, I really like that detail. The master board worked out well, I agree with you about when cut up. It seems that your mojo is calling again, this project has got you going! Despite all the tributes, it is difficult to actually take on board the loss of Shaz. I’m days ahead of you and still a bit detached from the reality.hugs.

  24. Great tea bag art. I am rethinking my 100 day project as I am not progressing with my journals as fast as I need to do to keep up. I actually have a pile of teabags in my stash, but they are round! Angela #21
