WOYWW #505: Altered cheese packaging, a win and a rant

OK, so I managed to lose my first paragraph after linking up and I can't be bothered to rewrite it - it was a rant about Google. Maybe they came and deleted it LOL! Anyway, the long and the short of it is that they've finally killed off G+ and all my comments were lost in the process. I was hoping that they would offer a solution to migrate comments to Blogger but they didn't. They don't care. It was easier for them to delete the comments, so now they're all gone. Forever.

In happier news, look what I've got on my desk!

I've won the  January Craft Stamper prize draw! Yay me! This really brightened up my day and made me forget about my Google woes. Also on my desk: a weathered tag in progress, along with some inked butterflies and my general clutter. That iPhone box has been kicking around for months now - I'm planning to alter it one day. My son's got the phone, I've got the box - and it is a darn good box too, very sturdy!

Onto my project share today, tada!

Cheese packaging stuck together with masking tape and covered in book paper (although this step wasn't strictly necessary, it made it more sturdy) with pieces of embossed  paper stuck on (made with Tim Holtz embossing folders), gesso and some acrylic ink (Prussian blue and Sepia, if I can remember correctly).  The magic happened when I added some gilding wax on top for highlights.

What is this, you ask? I don't know... It could be a stand for something or I could just call it an Artist Trading Coin Block - do they exist? They do now!

Before I go, I'd like to share this idyllic photo of Oreo enjoying a lazy Sunday afternoon by the fire.

My commenting system is supposed to have reverted back to the native Blogger comments - see if it works! Thanks for all the comments over the years - most of which came from the lovely people of WOYWW and some from a handful of faithful followers.  I'm ever so grateful for every single comment and I'm so sorry I couldn't keep them! xx

  1. Hi Zsuzsa, it's really annoying that all previous Google+ comments will vanish, I'm sure they could have avoided that, if they'd really wanted to. Lovely pic of Oreo, he looks most warm and comfy. Great job with that box, looks fab. Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #5 X

    1. Hi Shaz! From the looks of it, you're the first person to ever comment on my blog LOL! I was wondering who will do the honours - glad it's you! xx

  2. Well, I couldn't comment on your blog last time you posted, so fingers crossed for today. I'm not bothered about comments disappearing myself but can understand why some folks are upset. I love the fact that your son got the phone and you were happy with the box...that might be a reversal of when he was little. My boys always preferred the boxes to the actual toys, lol!! Great transformation of that cheese box btw.
Now then, fingers crossed that my comment doesn't disappear!

    1. I like a good sturdy box, that's for sure - I'm not saying I would choose it over an iPhone, of course but it's not to be snarled at LOL! Glad you were able to comment, Jan! I hope Google will now stop meddling.

  3. Hello Zsuzsa!!! Yay!!!!! I can do it! Of course, there is no guarantee that I will be able to make comments anywhere by next week, but I'm making hay, as they say> It is really outrageous that you have all lost all your comments - all that hard work over the years which you have put in to make your posts interesting - and everyone's reactions and responses - GONE!
That box is amazing - so jewel-like now it's done... hope you find a great use for it.
    Take care. God bless.

  4. Well, not the first person to rejoice...I haven’t been able to leave a comment here for you for ages, and I’m very pleased that Google+ is a gonner....but sorry about all your comments. No matter, it’s all about the forwards! The cheese box is a triumph, it makes a great stand for something....I admire your process, especially the bit about knowing when to stop!

    1. You're right Julia, it's all about the forwards - I'm not gonna dwell on this. I hate to think though that they can delete our blogs just the same, giving us less than a week's notice!

  5. I love the box and beautiful colours too, I’m sure you will find a use for it, crafters usually do.
Well done for winning a prize. I think this may be the first time I’ve been able to comment too, must be deleting that google +
    Have a great week

  7. Hi Szuzsa, nice box and always good to see useful objects recycled. I've got a box full of stuff in the loft which look as though they would make something just need to use them. Well done at winning the prize, looks very useful. Wishing you a happy crafty week and a great woyww, hugs for Oreo too. Angela x12x

  8. It is horrible about losing all the comments isn't it Zsuzsa. I'm in the same boat and except for a couple of very early comments form my sister in law from 2015 I have lost all of them too. Love the box. It would be a great place to store ATCoins if the lid still opens. Meow to Oreo and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #4

    1. You see, I didn't think of that! What a brilliant idea, but this one doesn't open - my next one will! The only problem is I don't like that cheese very much LOL!

  9. It is a delight to be able to repay your visit at long last, but a big BOO to google for deleting all your comments, I got a big message on my blog reader set up to tell me it would be happening (not that I've ever used google + as you know, but I suppose they have to tell the world) I love your altered box! 1. Hi Lynette! The only problem is I don't really like that cheese - so I'll have to find similar packaging with a different cheese LOL!

  12. Ooooh Zsuzsa, the box is even more mouth-watering than the cheese must have been! I love love it. Gorgeous texture and your signature colours! Deelicious. Lovely butterflies too, and a nice busy desk (which is more than I can say about mine these days...). Nice piccie of Oreo too, enjoying his lazy Sunday afternoon. Sorry to hear about your Google woes. I've been having my own share of these too, which is why I'm posting a day late for this WOYWW. I'm sick of it. Anyway, many thanks for your recent comment, and sorry to be so long replying. So glad you like my scarf! I certainly have been having some nice comments about it when I've worn it. Plumbing problems in the process of being solved as you will see from my latest post. It's all going to take time but at least we are warm again after the boiler broke down on Friday! The kitties are basking again.

    Happy belated WOYWW,

    2. Thanks for your return visit, Zsuzsa, and glad you enjoyed my post. The lack of headache pills is a pain, literally... Our kitties really are super-cute, aren't they! I think they must be the most photographed in the world! Thank you for the heads-up about my photos disappearing from my blog - I checked, and sure enough, they've all gone. I am REALLY HACKED OFF with Google at the moment. I uploaded all those photos from my hard drive and thought they would be safe. When are Google going to sort themselves out and stop messing us around???!!! I'm really spitting tacks about this. Do you think my photos and your comments will reappear if they sort it out?

    3. Hi Zsuzsa, sorry to be so long replying to your comment, for which many thanks. Life is very busy these days and I've been exhausted in between various activities and I'm still working hard on my Bible study preparation and working on a huge amount of new material. Good to keep my brain sharpened!! I don't think I did anything different with Google and sometime I'm going to have to face the fact that I've got a vast amount of work to do to get my photos back. I'm really fed up with Google, and not just over this blogging issue.

Give Oreo a stroke from me!

  14. Wow, that box is gorgeous! I love the colours, and as you said, the gold rub really finishes it off! You really have a knack for this - can't wait to see what happens to the i-phone box! Lovely Oreo, so laid back and content, so opposite at the moment to his little twin in Canada, Mittsy! I was worried about Mittsy not wanting the harness and leash, but now that she knows she gets to go outside if she's wearing it, she's fine. And yes, I have seen that look to Inky "where's yours?", but she really doesn't seem to care, and she's so little right now I would not dare to let her go without! Thanks for your visit, have a great week, Lindart #27

    1. I totally understand Linda! It's so hard to let them go - I still worry about Oreo out and about and I'm always relieved when he comes back in. Hopefully, Inky will teach some lessons to Mitsy about how to keep safe!

Thanks Shaz, I'm following you too - that's something else I'll have to build up from scratch as the blogger follower widget was not available to me when I signed up - I remember looking for it! I think it would be too small as a stand for Oreo LOL but I like the idea! He likes to place himself on small elevated surfaces!

  20. Hi Zsuzsa, this normal Camembert box has become a kind of jewel through your hands, it's fascinating!
What is happening with the lost comments and the comments that sometimes go through and sometimes not is frustrating, but we cannot do anything...
    N.B. Beautiful Oreo pic!

  21. oooooh Zsuzsa, that box looks so cool, doesn't need to be anything, it can just be a beautiful thing, love the colours and texture with that gilding wax to finish it off. Hey, maybe Artists Cheese Boxes could become a thing ... or any kind of small box .... hmmmm .... so sorry about the Google thing, I've been getting messages but didn't really understand what it meant. But your beautiful blog is still there and that's what matters xx

  22. Wow Zsuzsa! This looks like a piece of fine pottery you would find in our luxurious mountain towns nearby. I just love the effect you created and the amazing dimension. I too worry about the G+ annoyance, though I never switched over and hope it won't rock our blogging boats too badly. Huge congrats on your CSM win! Woo hoo! It's great to get to see what you've been up to as I've missed your beautiful work. Big hugs from across the pond, Autumn
